LumaCell has designed a revolutionary diagnostic platform that utilizes genetically-modified baker’s yeast to quickly and cost-effectively analyze the effects of drugs on the human body. The system has applications across toxicology as well as personalized medicine, including GLP1 therapies in metabolic health. Our initial product is a screen for active impairment in cannabis and opioids. Current testing tools are either incapable of quickly identifying impairing metabolites, resulting in results that typically flag prior use of up to a month. Our solution uses oral fluid to quickly and reliably identify active impairment, allowing for safe and legal recreational use. We also plan to develop a companion diagnostic for GLP1 therapies like Ozempic. Currently, patients are prescribed these therapies with a trial-and-error approach, resulting in significant toxicities and over half of patients dropping out within a year. Our solution aims to help clinicians understand who will benefit from this therapy before starting, as well as help monitor and optimize dosing over time.
